My first Yarn Cake!

Ok, so nothing big to get excited about.. but in 20+ years of knitting, this is my first yarn cake!

It used to look like this:

It will be a hat for DH, hopefully before we visit the snow!

First FO of 2008!

I started this on Dec 31, finished on Jan 02, and shipped the same day to my Sekrit Pal. It's the "bagsket" -- I took instructions from the foofanagle tutorial . Of course, being me, I made a few changes along the way. Visible in the top picture is the self-fabric binding, instead of purchased binding, and the lack of piecing. Here's a shot of the inside of the basket, kindly provided by Sekrit Pal. You can see one other modification: Instead of binding the pocket piece, I cut it twice the size and folded over. Trading fabric for time. :) One other significant change I made was to use two layers for the drawstring portion of the bag. While I'm not entirely happy with the method I used ( too much time ), the lining fabric had a definite 'wrong' side I didn't want showing.

I didn't have timtex, so I used Craftbond. The upholstery weight fabric I used on the outside portion was rather stiff, so this worked. I did use two layers of craftbond on the bottom, for firmness. The handles were a bit short for my taste, but my Sekrit Pal liked it well enough.

At first glance it looks good.. It's got all these "extra" fabric, mama... how it looks without my hand..

After two months in line. Now to figure out how to use it.Meanwhile, I went to Michael's for some needles. But I walked out with what's on the picture.

Doesn't look like much, until I 'fess up that it is 6 skeins of the brown yarn, and over 20 of the pink.

No actual plans for either yet. I just went in for size 8 dpns, which they didn't have. The circulars will work for my purposes.
